One of our young guests left this poem in the chalet.

La Bonne Vie, I call it home, It and the village, In which I have roamed.

I sit upon, The balcony, I look around, And what I see...

The mountains rise, Like guards of stone, And I know, I'm not alone.

Very sorry to leave.

Although the temperatures were quite high and we saw more rain than snow, we had a super week in this very comfortable house. For fanatical skiers this area is obviously not challenging enough; but for more recreational skiers it was perfect! Gentle slopes, very affordable rates, beautiful panorama's from the top of the chairlift over the Alps, and besides that also lots of winter walking possibilies: all in all we were very sorry we had to leave. After an active day outdoors it was lovely to come 'home' again in this house with its more Scandinavian than French ambiance. We hope to return in the nearby future, as there are so many more walking trails we'd like to explore. And because the scenery must be stunning in other seasons as well! We would like to thank Ian and Katie for the very pleasant and prompt contacts, and the good information they provided.

Kind regards, Robin and Monique Bowman

We really enjoyed our stay in the house, very comfortable for 2 adults with 3 (large) teenage boys. Well equipped kitchen and good dining / lounge area. Ideal holiday location for walking, running & cycling and also visiting nearby Annecy.

What can we say about those views from the chalet....
The property is a well appointed and in a lovely location with the peace and quite of being rural but an easy drive down to beautiful town of Annecy with all it has to offer. It would take months to fully discover this area and its surrounds there is so much to do, swimming, cycling and walking to name just a few things readily on offer. Cyclists take a note of Stage 20 of 2013 Tour de France, this place is a cyclists dream... take your bike!!! After a day out grab a pizza at Le Feu de Bois in Le Châtelard and bottle of Cote du Rhone, can't be beaten. And for those lazy days.. just enjoy the views from the wonderful chalet.

We had a lovely time in the chalet. Marvellously presented with all of the home comforts we are used to. Really useful having the cave to store my bike and other equipment while we were there.
Highlights of the week were the trips to Lac du Bourget (where we enjoyed a lovely swim and a leisurely picnic) and my early morning cycle rides over to Lake Annecy and back!
Fantastic scenery around every corner. Would love to return the next time we are in the region.
Thank you so much Ian!

A fantastic stay in a very well-appointed chalet, one of the best we have ever stayed in. Everything we could have wished for and more was provided. Stunning views from the balcony at the front and a lovely eating-out terrace to the side. Annecy was busy but beautiful - best parking was on the outskirts of town with a walk around the lake into the town centre. The Cascade de Tyroliennes zip wire course at Aillon Le Jeune was great for teenagers and took three hours so a good half-day activity. Lovely beaches with good facilities at Sévrier and Doussard and the chance to swim in Lake Annecy whilst looking up at the mountains. Pizzas from Le Feu de Bois in Le Châtelard were excellent. A very highly recommended chalet in a beautiful area.

16-23/8/14 Fantastic views from Mt Revard over to Mt Blanc. Annecy picturesque but traffic a nightmare - we visited on Tuesday & parking non-existent in centre - park on outskirts and walk round the lake! Spent a lovely day at Aillons station - horseriding, ski lift, walking and swimming. Equestrian centre there great although would recommend some riding experience for younger children as some steep hills on trek - my 9 year old who rides regularly loved it! Lovely midday meal at La Grolle in Lescheraines, 12.50€ for 3 course menu du jour. The children (6&9) enjoyed the Belleveaux valley in the easy hikes book. Weather great, views from gite lovely. Gite well equipped & comfortable.

21-26 July Really enjoyed the chalet, lovely accommodation, even had one night with the wood burner. Very enjoyable time. Annecy is lovely and worth a visit, also Aix-le-bains. Some nice short walks from the chalet and the picnic spot by the river! View from the chalet absolutely great and enjoyed watching the changes in the weather!

July 5th - 19th Here we are back again! Once again we have had a great time in your lovely chalet in this beautiful region. We have had quite a mix of weather with 9 days of rain and very, very low cloud. One of our highlights this time was a trip to Col de Petit St Bernard where we drove through fresh snow to Italy. Once the sun returned and the temperature up into the 30s we had many lovely walks in the mountains. One of our favourite walks is the climb up the mountain at Margeriaz where we saw at least five marmots and some very strange looking mountain sheep. We also had several trips in and around Annecy. Spent many hours at the top of Col de la Forclaz watching the parapenters taking off. We very much hope to return again next year!

24-31 May A lovely week in Chatelard! It was great to arrive and find a beautifully clean and comfortable chalet, very thooughtfully stocked with everything you might need on holiday, books, DVD's, all appliances to make for an easy relaxed holiday. All easy to use. We both loved the area and friendly people here. Went to Annnecy, visited Eglise St. Maurice in the old town and walked around new and old parts of Annecy, saw some big fish in the lake! Walked to Cascade du Pisseau, Margeriaz and other areas all equally enjoyable, especially Chamonix to visit Mont Blanc, went up in the cable car (went last year) but this time a clear sunny day, fantastic and very memorable.

The chalet is beautifully situated, stunning views, very well equipped, spacious, clean and great to cosy up in of an evening. It is very well situated and the surrounding area is full of places to explore, with plenty of quality local butchers, bakeries and cheese makers selling tasty treats! There is lots to see and do for all ages and the locals are all very friendly and helpful.

Melanie who provides a catering service to the Chalet is excellent and we would highly recommend her food, which is to a very high standard.

We had a lovey week and hope to back again in the future. Thank you both again.

Spent a great week at the chalet, exploring the surrounding area. The chalet itself comfortably accommodated six people, was clean, well furnished and had everything we needed for cooking etc. The chalet has a great view across the valley of the surrounding mountains.

We're keen cyclists and the area is great for riding. It may not have some of the bigger famous cols but there are plenty of great climbs in the area (Semnoz and Mont Revard being two that also provide fantastic views). It was useful having a garage to keep the bikes in rather than leaving them in the car etc.

Had a lovely week at your beautifully appointed chalet -what wonderful views from every angle. As we have been to Annecy, Aix les Bains, Chambery many times in the past we tried to visit as many local sites as we could. We found a postcard in your copious notes and maps and managed to leave the car and walk to most of the "sites pittoresques" on the card- some of them q.difficult to get down or up to but we old codgers managed it. The 400 year old Chapelle de Bellevaux was most interesting and La Cascade du Pissieu cooling on a v.hot day. In all we had a v.pleasant week with only one rainy day'

We visited La Bonne Vie through the end of February and into March. The Chalet was an easy drive from Geneva Airport and situated in the picturesque village of Le Chatelard.
There is a large supermarket that is just down the road from La Bonne Vie and open from 08:00-20:00. The Chalet itself was incredible with accommodation for 6 and a large dining table, spacious kitchen and huge corner sofa. There is a DVD player and sky available, so perfect for the cold winters nights with the log fire burning.
We spent a few days skiing at the resorts, Le Aillons & Margeriaz; they were only a 15 minute drive away. They were very easy to find as are well sign posted and the ski hire and slope passes were very reasonably priced.
During our stay we also visited the towns of Chambery and Annecy; we would highly recommend both and also a trip to Le Revard to view the surrounding area.

Had a great time at La Bonne Vie during the February half term. The chalet was excellent and an ideal base for exploring the nearby ski resorts. Highly recommend Margeriaz as a great starter family friendly resort. I was surprised how quiet is was for this time of year. No queues for the lifts and the pistes to yourself...brilliant!
We will be back next year....thanks again.

12 Sep 13 - A fantastic 11 day stay for the three of us and one that will be long remembered. La Bonne Vie has been everything we hoped it would be and the views will be sadly missed once we have gone. For September the weather has been great. The first week saw temperatures up to 28°C before a colossal thunderstorm knocked them down. After that, and our only full day of rain, it remained very pleasant and didn't stop any of our outdoor activities.  Highlights for us include:-

- Annecy, the old town and the fantastic market that we visited twice on separate Tuesdays. The range and quality of the produce was astounding!

- The market in Le Chatelard on Friday. It only consisted of about 5 stalls but again the quality was great. Can highly recommend the roti chicken, it kept us in sandwiches for days!

- The bakeries in Jarsy & Ecole. The baker in Jarsy is obviously a real craftsman and very proud of what he does. Can highly recommend the olive fougasse.

- Cycling around Annecy lake, the east shore provides spectacular views , the west is a little disappointing as it follows an old railway line away from the lake. I would recommend turning round at the southern-most point and repeating the east shore route.

- Mountain climbing around the Dent d'Arclusaz, although the steepness of the climb after the Chapelle N-D de Bellevaux was something of a challenge with an 18 month old boy on your back!

- The view from Mt. Revard. I was truly stunned by the height of Mt. Blanc.

I could go on, but I won't, except to say the Les Clarines serves lovely food and surprisingly presented us with an English menu! Overall it's been fantastic and we would love to return in the future!

3-10 Aug

Our second visit in 2 years. We loved our stay so much last time around, we came back! We have had a great week and managed to pack so much in. Some of our highlights this year have been:-

- climbing almost to the top of Mt Colombier: ran out of time and energy on a very hot day.

- taking a pedalo out on Lake Annecy and swimming in the warm water.

- Alpine roller coaster in Chamonix: a long drive but a great day out.

And lots of other walks. And not forgetting the swims in Lescheraines. We wish we were able to stay longer. Thank you.

Thank you Ian and Katie for letting us stay in your beautiful chalet which has everything you need, even spectacular views! We have done so much: swimming in the lake at Annecy & Lac du Bourget, had a fabulous walk up to the top of the ski runs at Margeriaz and even saw a marmot! There is so much to do in this area that we would love to come back next year and explore further.

Thank you again, Andy & Val Glass, Witney, Oxfordshire

P.S. It was great to see the Etape go right passed the chalet with 13,500 cyclists!!

1/6/13 We very much enjoyed our stay in your delightful chalet - in fact the best place we have ever stayed in France according to Dad! Log burner is lovely and makes the place very cosy, but beware - the temperature rises fast!

The views are spectacular - even on a cloudy day. Viewpoint at Mount Revard is well worth a visit. Annecy makes for a delightful stroll and has some lovely shops. The chalet has been very thoughtfully designed and has everything for a cosy stay - home from home.

To all future guests - Enjoy! You have a wonderful holiday ahead. xx

We stayed here from 24 to 31 August 2013 and had a delightful time. There was nothing that could have been improved: the chalet was immaculate, the views and surroundings gorgeous, local entertainment (for adults and children) varied and suited to all tastes. We visited Mont Blanc and the Vercors, and more locally visited Annecy, lakes and a tree tops adventure course (NOT for the faint hearted!). A lovely time.

This modern well equipped chalet is situated on the outskirts of Le Chatelard in a prime position commanding wonderful views of the Massif Des Bauges. Le Chatelard is quite a small village but contains all that would be holiday makers could ask for in terms of a supermarket with fuel, bank, boulangerie, tourist information and it even has a pizza hut! Restaurants are plenty in the area with Les Clarines in the village offering excellent food.

This area is particularly good for walkers with ample choices for all abilities, with well signed paths and estimated walking times! Most local walks have written guides and can be found in the chalet and the tourist office.

Further afield there is Annecy and Aix Les Bain both less than an hours drive away. The road into Annecy via the Col de Leschaux is a lovely drive but can be improved by taking a left at the col and traversing Mt. Semnoz; this also has the benefit of bringing you directly into Annecy without facing the extremely busy main road by the lake which can be queued for miles.

Finally everything about the whole area can be found in a very generous information basket in the chalet along with a great DVD selection for those lazy evenings with a glass of wine. Bonnes Vacances.

Thanks once again for a great place to stay.
Regards Malcolm

Hi Ian & Katie,

just to let you know, we had a wonderful holiday at La Bonne Vie. It was everything we wanted and more. You have a lovely house there, superbly equipped, beautifully located, well maintained and very, very comfortable. Le Chatelard is a lovely little village, and a great base for exploring the area. We managed lots of walking, lots of swimming, and lots of relaxing. We felt entirely at home. The Sky box was a real bonus, as it allowed us to follow the Olympics when we got home at the end of the day.

You know how sometimes you go on holiday somewhere, and everything is perfect - this was one of those holidays. I would be more than happy to return at some point in the not too distant future. I did take a couple of the business cards you left in the house and will happily recommend your house to others.

Again, many thanks.

We spent a very relaxing and enjoyable week at La Bonne Vie. The view from the chalet was simply spectacular and the range of activities available nearby was fantastic (walking, swimming, climbing, etc). With 5 adults staying in the chalet for a week, we were extremely comfortable, and self-catered more than we had expected to do, simply because the chalet was a lovely place to relax at the end of busy days. The views are tremendous even with low cloud skimming the mountainsides. We found plenty to do in the local area and were bowled over by the stunning wildflowers.
We were fortunate to meet Ian and Katie the night before Ian did his first Triathlon - brave man! We were also welcomed to the neighbours' street party on a beautiful warm evening with a full moon making its way across the sky and disappearing behind the mountain.
The chalet definitely gets a very positive recommendation from all of us.

We stayed at the Chalet for 4 nights in the beginning of June. The Chalet was beautiful. We loved the way the windows were placed in the walls. Looking through them was like looking at a picture. The grass, the mountains, the cowbells all so perfect. The Chalet was adequately equipped. There was a lot of information about the area which was very helpful. All in all a great place. We hope to come again.

We spent a week in early May 2012 at La Bonne Vie. The weather for the Finns, at least, was very accommodating, getting warmer as the week progressed. Being in between the winter season and the summer season, it was all quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the location and the views very much. The Chatelard village, while quite modest, had the benefit of having the internet at the tourist office, free of charge and even printed copies were cost free, one could set up an office there! In addition to hiking in the nearby mountains, exploring les Garins and les Chargieux, we discovered the Revard plateau, with magnificent views in all directions, all the way to Mont Blanc, and the Aix-les-Bains on the other side lying at the foot of the mountain. Splendid scenery and I am sure very nice for cross-country skiers in winter. The chalet itself was perfect with the terasses on two sides. The tomme les Bauges and the local wines were new discoveries to us, all perfect for taking along the hikes.

We stayed at La Bonne Vie in mid Feb 2012. In short we had a lovely time and the house was perfect, both in situation (at the edge of the village)and in the accomodation it afforded. Ian rang me before we went and was very, very helpful and went out of his way to ensure we were ok. The area is fantastic and if you want to go skiing the local ski resort is perfect for beginners. I have been to many ski resorts and I loved this one, it was cheap, car parking easy and full of variety. Would I stay again, absolutely, wait until you wake up, pull back the curtains and take in the view, breathtaking. This house fully lived up to our expectations in every way and if you love a nice hot bath at the end of a busy day, then this is the place for you. In short 5 star

8/9/11 - 15/9/11 What a wonderful location & lovely chalet. We have had a truly peaceful & restful holiday & enjoyed every minute of it. No children so no need for lots of activities. Lots of local walks and swimming at Lescheraines lake. Well worth a visit to swim & walk around the lakes and beyond. Drove to Les Garins (road oposite the Pharmacy) and from there walked to Col du Planc - fantastic views. We drove south to St. Pierre d'Albigny - an amazing 7km of hairpin bends - worth a visit just for the drive (not for the nervous driver). Annecy Old Town has to be visited - our tip is to park a little away from the old town, due to very narrow streets & congestion, & then walk there. The old town was fascinating. The lake is amazing - we went to Methuan beach, good facilities & the lake is so clean - couldn't resist another dip. Visited Compote & L'Angelus restaurant. The plat du jour was extremely good at 15.50€ each. Wish we had more time to explore the area further. Thanks Katie & Ian, we've had a holiday that we will remember for a long time. The chance to slow down & enjoy the peaceful location has provided a real tonic. Barbie & Peter

20/8/11 to 3/9/11 Enjoyed a fabulous two weeks in this chalet. Our two grown up children stayed with us for the first week. Visited Annecy, Lescheraines (for swimming in the lakes). Our son did the mammoth walks, climbing first the mountain in front of the chalet and then another somewhere behind Jarsy! Nick and I did Compote walk and another walk from La Chapelle to la Croix - wonderful views and well worth the climb! We also visited Aix-le-Bain and dined overlooking the Lac. Weather was wonderful - only two nights of rain and thunderstorms but our top temperature hit 35.5°C! Le Chatelard market (Friday mornings) was very good - selection of meats, cheeses, fish, bread, fruit and vegs. Lescheraines (market) disappointing. Hope you enjoy your time as much as we have - would hope to come back sometime to this beautiful area. The Bance family

13th - 20th August Here for the World Orienteering Championships. Running 6 days in the French Grand Revard festival. Staying here has been delightful, a truly beautiful place. Went to Chatillions on the rest day, on Lake du Bourget - much nicer than busy Annecy. Had a delightful lazy lunch then a quiet swim in the lake. Walked over to La Compote and had a drink before walking back. The walk through the wood gave us shade from the hot sun. Certainly surprised by the beautiful French countryside. Would recommend the accommodation and area to anyone. Lovely to see flower meadows full of butterflies, redstarts, lizards etc. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home. Just returned from a 2 week break and I have to say that La Bonne Vie did not disappoint - unlike the weather (July '11). The chalet is located on the edge of the village in a modern development but is not overlooked and is well appointed, with mountain views in all directions - even the odd golden eagle soaring overhead! As for Le Chatelard, a 5 minute walk from the chalet, it is a great base to explore the locality and the Massif des Bauges in general. If you are into shopping, this may not be the place for you (try Annecy instead) but if you like walking and relaxing, you'll love it. We explored even further south when chasing the "Le Tour"... but that's another story! In short, highly recommended.

March 5th - March 12th 2011. Had an excellent week at La Bonne Vie with fantastic weather every day. Attractive, modern,well-equipped chalet in a lovely peaceful area yet very convenient for visits to many interesting towns eg Chambery, Annecy and Aix les Bains. The ski area at Margeriaz is very scenic and ideal for families and beginners/intermediates. Very good new supermarket in Le Chatelard.

The "Alpen" packet view from the chalet is probably the most stunning view we have had from our holidays. The chalet itself is perfect - beds very comfortable and living / lounging / cooking area - ideal for our family. Your books and DVD's better than the usual dross. Skiing at Les Aillons - was icy and in parts a little bare but Margeriaz is a hidden gem for beginners and for people of all abilities. We really enjoyed it there. Ate in most nights but enjoyed Les Clarines for one meal and the owners were very accommodating. The holiday has been perfect for our family, especially in that time after Christmas day when time can go by less productively. Thanks & best wishes, Ben, Andrea, May & Sam Lavelle

La Bonne Vie - 21st August - Had a fabulous 2 week stay in what I can only say was a fantastic chalet in a fantastic location. We loved Le Chatelard, so quaint and unspoilt. Scenery around the area and the Alps was just amazing. Annecy and Chamonix were great but we were always glad to get back to the chalet for the peace and quiet. Night sky was unbelievable, could spend hours gazing at the planets and stars. Would definitely return if we were to revist this area again.

We stayed at La Bonne Vie for ten days from 31st July and our only complaint is that the stay was too short! The chalet furnished is to a very high standard, very comfortable with all mod cons. The views are even more stunning than the pictures on the website and at night the sky is amazing, the lack of light pollution means the stars really shine, we saw several shooting stars too. We have four children ranging from eight to fifteen and have stayed at several French holiday camps with all the clubs and activities they provide, so we were a bit worried that we might struggle to keep them entertained while staying at an Alpine holiday home in the summer. Glad to report there is loads to do ranging from lazing on the beach at Lake Annecy to thundering down a Luge at Semnoz, Kate and Ian have thoughtfully provided a comprehensive folder full of local attractions and there is a local Tourist Office, we went away feeling we had barely scratched the surface. The acid test with any holiday is “would you go back?”, in our case the answer is a unanimous YES!

We stayed at La Bonne Vie in the first week of July 2010. Not being skiers it was the first time we had been to this region of France - we absolutely loved it. The dramatic scenery, the wonderful lakes - both Annecy and the small leisure area at Lescheraine were both fab in their own way. Lots to do for all, I just wish I had brought my road bike! The chalet was ideal, everything we needed to look after a 5 person family and what a view! We will be back. Keep it up folks.

The chalet (La Bonne Vie) was everything promised by the publicity. A very well designed and kitted out chalet for a family holiday with all the 'mod cons' and a bit more. As we stayed during the World Cup period, the option of following it all on TV was a bonus (or was it?) Would recommend the chalet to friends and for those who want a quiet, relaxing holiday but with plenty of activites for people who want to get out and about and do things. Kind regards Mike Harper

Hi Guys, Having spent a week working at Ian and Kate’s chalet in the summer, I can truly say how wonderful a location it is. Although working very hard, we had the chance to experience the local towns and villages during the evenings and very much enjoyed meeting the local people as well as lovely meals out. Whether in the summer or during the winter this location has it all!! I am truly smetten by the area and am looking forward to a week of golf with Paul in September and to a spot of skiing in December. If you want to de-stress this has got to be the perfect location and I am now keen to share the experience with my wife and family. Thank you Ian for the opportunity to go out there, it has to be the best weeks work I have done to date (even though you worked us so hard and we only had cold showers for the first few days - lol)!!
